THE TOP COAT: Tiana of @nowlosingsanity

Tiana is a Boston-based content creator making whimsical and bold makeup looks on Instagram @nowlosingsanity! We're always inspired by her use of brightly colored makeup and fun graphic liner. Tiana has been featured in Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Harper's Bazaar. My name is Tiana. I’m a 25 year old first generation American born from Portuguese immigrants. I currently work at a coffee shop and have for the past 8 years. ️ I currently reside in Boston, Massachusetts. I plan on living in New England forever but I want to travel the world one day.  We're so in love with the colors you use! Can you tell us more about how you pick out colors for your looks? So typically when sketching out or thinking of ideas for my looks, I like looking at my Instagram feed and figuring out what colors I haven’t used in a while. Then I’ll typically use a shade close to one on the color wheel or use a contrasting color. Contrasting colors are usually my favorite because they draw in a lot of attention and look beautiful. How did you come about starting your Instagram page, @nowlosingsanity? What was the inspo behind the name? When starting my Instagram, I really had a hard time. Putting yourself out there for criticism is never an easy decision. Since YouTube started, I always watched makeup tutorials but I never wore makeup. I had all this knowledge that I wasn’t putting to use. One day I was talking to someone about my hobbies and they asked me, “Why don’t you do it too since you like it so much?” And I thought, “Why don’t I?” Nothing was stopping me but myself. I took the plunge and I haven’t look back since. My inspiration behind my username was Tumblr. It just stuck. As I aged I decided to keep it because we’re all losing our sanity in one way or another. I’ve always been fascinated with mental health and we all have our own struggles that we have to face daily.  How would you describe your personal style? My personal style is really muted typically. I enjoy things that make me feel comfortable, i.e., leggings and oversized t shirts. I live in black clothes. I like using bright makeup as my colorful expression. In what ways do you enjoy treating yourself? The ways I enjoy treating myself the most are buying plants or things to pamper myself with. I want to bring the rainforest into my home and have the crispest air to be found in my city. Lately, skincare and painting my nails on my days off work have been my go-to. When you look good, you feel good.  Who/what do you take inspiration from? For my inspiration, I typically get it through the people I follow. I follow so many beautiful and talented individuals. They all radiate such creative beauty. When I really need an EXTRA creative boost, I find myself scrolling through artwork on Pinterest. Finding different color combinations and shapes/designs through other pieces of art is a really heartwarming process. What's your creative process like? My creative process is very messy in comparison to a lot of other people. Most moments, I freestyle all of my work and just do what comes naturally. When I do sketch out my work, it always comes to me randomly. Kind of like a vision almost... it’s very strange. And when I do get an idea like that, I draw it out on a face chart on my phone and wait until I can bring it to life!  What are your interests outside of makeup? Outside of makeup, my biggest hobby would have to be tending to my plants. I have about 50 of them and taking care of them all and making sure they’re healthy is a lot of maintenance! I also play video games from time to time (Fortnite, Animal Crossing, and Smash hahaha) Questions you get asked the most? The questions I get asked the most would have to be how I take my photos and what eyeliner brushes I use. Natural lighting is best for photos and figuring out your angles can be a long process but it is absolutely worthwhile. The liner brushes I use are actually fine paint brushes! They’re typically thinner than a lot of eyeliner brushes and work just as well for half the price! Your Top 3 Cirque Products:My top 3 Cirque products would have to be Robin, Hatch, and the hand cream! Speckled polishes are something I’ve never seen before and give a really unique and effortless elegant look. The hand cream is something out of a fairy land. As I stated above, I work in a coffee shop and we’re constantly having to wash our hands and especially now since Covid (wear your masks please), and this hand cream is MAGIC. My hands never get dry when I use this. I also have sensitive skin and this is so friendly for people like me!Any questions you want answered? Want to submit someone to be interviewed?
