THE TOP COAT: Melanie of @overglowedit

Hi! We're glad you're here! Welcome to our new interview segment, The Top Coat: On this new blog segment, we will be talking to influencers, beauty-industry insiders, Cirque team members and manicurists. Our first guest is Melanie, of @overglowedit and the blog, Overglow Edit. Melanie has been featured in Refinery29, Poosh and Fashionista."I’m Melanie from Overglow Edit! I like to photograph and share the different things around me that make me happy, which usually include beauty things and sometimes little cameos from my cats."Do you remember when/how you got into nail polish? I remember when I was a teenager and everyone started getting manicures and gel nails and I wanted them so badly, but my mom always telling me how much of a waste of money it was and that you could just do it yourself for free – so that’s what I did! My sisters and I would sit around the table with newspaper laid out so we didn’t stain anything and paint our nails together, and it was a fun little ritual. I used to be really messy and peel the excess polish that got on my skin off in the shower, but luckily my technique has improved since then. What’s your nail care routine like? I have a simple routine, but I think it’s important to be consistent with keeping up with it! I like to push my cuticles back and just clean up around the edges, I don’t cut them though. I’ll also file them a bit, and I just follow the natural shape of my nail. I have to use cuticle oil & hand cream religiously because they’ll get really dry, and I use both many times a day since they honestly need them. If I slack on the cuticle oil I can absolutely tell, I think that’s the key to really finishing off a manicure. Where do you get inspiration from? For inspiration I try to look in a variety of places so I don’t get stuck in one mindset or idea or aesthetic. Lately I’ve been looking at lots of home décor, there’s always so much to discover in terms of styling and color and shapes. Pinterest is always solid, and sometimes just putting on a certain song or album puts me in a mindset or mood to just try things out from my gut. What’s one way you treat yourself?I like to treat myself with a box of chocolates! It always feels like something you gift to someone else or wait for someone to give you, but I like having a giant box of truffles to me, from me.What shows have you been watching lately? I love High Maintenance – it’s such a beautiful, joyous, honest show. Also, I’m a bit late but halfway through Escape from Dannemora and I don’t know why I’m addicted to Love it or List it, but I love guessing how much the houses will cost.Top 3 Cirque Colors products?Morganite, the Green Tea Cuticle Oil Pen -- the packaging is so convenient- and the Liquid Laminate Top Coat Any questions you want answered? Do you remember when/how you got into nail polish?

What’s one way you treat yourself?

I like to treat myself with a box of chocolates! It always feels like something you gift to someone else or wait for someone to give you, but I like having a giant box of truffles to me, from me.

What shows have you been watching lately?

I love High Maintenance – it’s such a beautiful, joyous, honest show. Also, I’m a bit late but halfway through Escape from Dannemora and I don’t know why I’m addicted to Love it or List it, but I love guessing how much the houses will cost.
