Eda Levenson for Cirque Colors at the AW15 Chromat Runway Show

Image via New York-based designer, Becca McCharen graduated with an architecture degree from the University of Virginia and has since started Chromat in 2010, creating structural experiments for the human body.  McCharen drew her inspiration for her Autumn/Winter 2015 collection from the concepts of innovator Martine Rothblatt's post-human Mindfiles.  “A Mindfile is the sum of saved digital reflections about you. All of the stored emails, chats, texts, IMs and blogs that you write are part of your Mindfile. All of the uploaded photos, slide shows and movies that involve you are part of your Mindfile. Your search histories, clicked selections and online purchases, if saved, are part of your Mindfile. Your digital life is your Mindfile.” Her innovative designs incorporate materials made through biotechnology such as latex, thermoplastic polyurethane, synthetic hair and (wo)man-made Swarovski crystals to accentuate women of all sizes, race and gender identities. McCharen takes pride that the "Chromat woman" is "so many people—it’s strong, powerful women in every different way" which is so widely seen throughout her runway shows. Image via This was our second season sponsoring nails for Chromat's runway shows and we knew exactly who we wanted to work with to lead the creative efforts - Brooklyn-based nail artist, Eda Levenson (aka - LadyFancyNails), known for her "striking yet minimal" linear free-hand designs. Inspired by the transparency of the fabrics and the layerability of the pieces, we developed a custom color in a sheer off-white hue named “Latex”. Levenson created two nail looks using clear acrylic tips shaped into dramatic almonds for a futuristic feel.  For the first look, Levenson applied 1 coat of “Latex” over the clear nail. Once dry she painted a single horizontal stripe along the bottom half of the nail using “Memento Mori” - our opaque black creme.   Image via Image via For the second look, she created a minimal color block design using “Memento Mori” and a single black line down the center of the nail extending to the end of the tips.
